A Grizzly adventure

Long time since I have updated the blog, but I`ve been really busy. However, I´m back in the game now. My good friend Terje Holden and I flew over to BC, Canada to meet Scanouts Tim Pask, that spends the fall fishing steelhead.

Armed with pepperspray and a small arsenal of Nikon D2Xs´s and a 200:2 VR as well as a 200-400:4 VR (all the pictures below are taken with these lenses), a lot of the time we filmed with Sony HC7 HDV cams, som some small clips will appear on Scanout Web-TV, they will be shown on the site in 2008.

All in all we had a fantastic trip. I came close to the bears, too close  sometimes. But I always felt confident around the bears, as they had more than enough food. They were never aggressive, leaving us alone, even though both Terje and I must have appeared like two proper meals.

Mining for Silver

It was an extremely cold start to the Atlantic Salmon fishing in Labrador this year, so I was lucky enough to spend some time photographing the icebergs in that were still plentiful in the Fjords.  I can’t begin to describe the contrasting beauty of these works of art, but did my best to capture them digitally.  Soon the weather broke and a few fish began to make their journey, but of course the black flies were among the first to seek the warmth of the sun and we all paid dearly.  Luckily the fishing picked up and the bugs became nothing more then a distraction, and the following three weeks melted away.

We soon found ourselves headed to Russia’s Kola Peninsula, where the weather once again haunted us, but a beautiful 28 pound Atlantic Salmon which came to a dry fly soon warmed our spirits.

I am happy to let everyone know that Scanout is taking part in a new book project and we will soon be releasing more information this project.

Shooting Malta                                                                              (10.05.07)

The MTA (Maltese Tourist Authority) together with The Gate Communicazone have invited 27 world leading Nikon Pro’s,  one photographer from each EU/EEC country to shoot Malta in their own style. Scanout’s Yngve Ask was lucky enough to be the Norwegian representative, and went to Malta with Nikon Product specialist Vegar Berg from Norway.

The assignment was a challenge. With no information in advance the photographers had 2-3 days to complete their assignments.

The pictures will end up in a exhibition that will tour around in Europe 2007- 2008, as well as in a book. More news will follow as we go on...

” How cool is that” My fu**ing cables and UV flashes were taken out of my Storm Case because of security reasons at the Airport. Anyway, my new best friend Carsten Tyberg from Denmark was kind enough to loan me his cables, because his flashes were confiscated as well, but they left his cables in the case… So the first day I went to photograph dolphins in the marine park, next day I had 1! dive in Gozo, storms and bad weather I saw a cuttlefish! But great visibility…the 3 day I shot Maltas finest fish restaurant “Fumia Restaurant” in Valetta, fantastic! If you are ever in Malta…visit it! The rest of the night I did night shots…

Seatrout-fishing in Bornholm                                                     020507

Johan and I was 1 week in the beautiful island of Bornholm (Denmark), now in the end of April. The main objective was to film seatrout for Ecofilm, and sea trout fishing. But the sea trouts diden’n show. Anyway we got to film a lot of other UW scenes that was good.
It is a fantastic atmosphere on the Island. Carlsberg and Danish pastry never fare away… The masses of wildlife on the island is also fantastic. Pheasants, rabbits and ro-deers. In the morning its like diving on an African safari. I’ll be back in Nowember or the run

Cold winter

I knew I had to eat these words up…damn…

Right after the last blog update it turned cold, reaching form minus 19 to 31. I was asked from Nikon here in Norway to do a test on the Nikon D80 in the cold..last week I told them it was gonna be hard, this week…it was easy. I’ll publish the test later. Just a short update from a cold photographer…brrrrr

Warm winter                                                                                                       040207

I`ve had several assignments the last couple of months, but at the time I’m sitting in the mountains of Valdres, getting winter shots and video. The warm weather has been an issue here, it`s not too often we have several days in February with + 4, and sun. Reminds me more of a late easter-vacation. Anyway we have been sucsessfull in our quest for good films and pictures, and you will find some of it soon on our web. I have spent one week here so far, and have one more before heading back to the office.

Friday we had a full moon, so I was able to make a couple of timelapses with my D2Xs, shot 1 frame pr second, and it worked out well. Next week its alpine skiing, cross-country skiing and hopefully some ice-fishing.

Norwegian Arctic

I spent four days at Rolvsøya rabbit-hunting. Rolvsøya is located at 71 dg. North, so it`s way up in the Arctics.

I felt very lucky to be able to visit such a gem, and a big thanks to the locals that showed me such wonderful hospitality.

To hunt rabbit on this arctic island is a truly an exotic adventure. The huge white sandy beaches  reminds me more of the tropics than the usual harsh arctic nature.

The last day I spent together with Ingvar Rødsjø and his  dog, Norwegian champion Hi-Treff, hunting grouse. They where white, but with no snow around they were easily spooked. Anyway, Hi-Treff managed to find and hold them until we got in range…

Cascapedia

- Salmon capital of the world

Together with Chris and Jeniffer, I spent the two last weeks of the season by this fantastic river. After first spending a week here last year, we decided stay two weeks this year in our quest after the biggest fish and the perfect pictures.

For the first two days the skies were blue, and Chris had two hook-ups. What an amazing two weeks we were going to have…

Another thing that is quite amazing, is how fast the river can rise, and how dark and foamy it can get after two days of rain. It doesn’t help the fishing either, with heavy wind and thousands of leaves in the water.

That pretty much sums up the fishing these two weeks. Of course we had some moments where we hooked the odd fish, but it was hard work.

I did two dives at Barry mountain pool, and saw some huge fish. I look forward to getting back in there next summer when the water is clearer.

A big thanks to the staff at Camp New Derreen and the Caspedia River Society.
